The New House

Well, we sold our house in Bathurst Street after 8 wonderful years. Ben did such a great job renovating it. When we started planning on another baby, we decided we needed a bigger house. The old house was 3 (small) bedrooms and not a lot of living space or yard room. The option to build or buy a new house was there, but Ben loves renovating and we wanted something close to town so at least we could be walking distance from everything. We are pretty much at the back of the CBD, so it is perfect for walking the kids to school or walking down town.

So the house (when we finish the renovation) will be 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 large living areas, 1 very large kitchen, inground pool and on a 1300 sq m block.

It is a bit of a dog's breakfast at the moment as we had to level the floors (re-stump) before we could do anything.

Whats coming up: Finish leveling the floor, lay the floorboards, raise the roof on 3 of the bedrooms (they didnt meet standard 2.4m height), gyprock the bedrooms and living areas, get new kitchen and that's pretty much the front of the house done!

The back of the house (consisting of 2 bathrooms, 1 bedroom, laundry and sun rooom will be done at a later date.

So here are some pictures of the house for you.

Kitchen - Before

This is the original kitchen, but we will convert this + the adjoining room into 1 big U shaped kitchen.

This is the adjoining room, which will become the right-hand side of the kitchen

A close up of the fabulous kitchen that we are replacing LOL.

This is the temporary kitchen (in old laundry) that we have set up until new kitchen is installed. It's pretty bloody ordinary, but will do the job in the short-term.

Lounge / Dining - Before

There was no front door on the house (only 2 side entrances) so we are converting one of the bedrooms into the main entrance / lounge, which will join the original lounge to make a huge lounge - which will also join the kitchen. Here are pics of the 2 rooms which will become 1 lougeroom.

This is the original loungeroom (looking towards baby's room, kitchen on the right, other half of the lounge on the left)

This is the front half of the loungeroom (originally bedroom) looking towards Riley's room, other half of loungeroom on the left, front door on right)

This is the loungeroom looking towards where the front door will be (currently a window) on the left is Riley's room & Lewis's Room, to the right is Baby's room & spare room, behind is the kitchen. The wall you are looking at will be gone.

Baby Star's Room

This is one of the rooms that need the ceiling lifted to 2.4 metres. The window at the front of the house will be removed and the side window will be centred. The door to the left (joining the loungeroom) will be removed too as well as a door on the right (used as main entrance).

We used this room to store all the pulled up carpets etc when we were stripping the loungeroom. It's cleared out again now.

Lewis's Room

This room also needs it's ceiling raised, carpet, gyprock and built-ins. This is his room with carpet removed.

This is Lewis's room view from Riley's room. Again this room needs gyprock, carpet and built-ins. Lewis and Riley's room's are on the left hand side of the loungeroom.

Riley's Room

Riley's room needs ceiling lifted, carpet, gyprock and built-ins. The front window will go and there will be a large side window to the left.

The view from Lewis's room to Riley's room. The door on the right will go as well. Both Lewis and Riley's rooms will both enter the top part of the loungeroom.

Spare Room

The spare room needs the least work. It's ceiling height is fine and floor is level. The window will stay. This room needs gyprock, carpet and a built-in. There is 2 doors into this room - 1 from Baby Star's room and 1 from the kitchen. We will put the entrance opposite Lewis and Riley's doors and next to Baby Star's door in the loungeroom.

The spare room looking towards the kitchen. That door will go. So will the posters LOL.

Well, I am all photo'd out for now. I will put the rest on later today.

Love and Renno's Delight, Jes

Wow, you've got yr work cut out for you, but it is a great sense of accomplishment to do it yourself isn't it?

Good to see a blog update xx

YES Jen, you will have to plan a trip this year to meet my new baby too x x x
It is confusing to look at. Jen, I had to do up a plan of the front end of the house for the air conditioning, I will email it through to you - then you can place where everything goes.

Hayley, yes, I love the acomplished feeling when a job is finished. The boys are helping Ben when they can, so they are getting a real feel for building etc - which I think is so wonderful. They ask heaps of "why" questions and really understand what we are doing i.e why we had to re-stump the floors.
